Simba Source mattress composition
The Simba Source mattress is built with sustainability and comfort at its core, featuring five carefully designed layers.
Each layer plays a role in ensuring a balance of support, pressure relief, and temperature control while using more eco-friendly materials.
The six layers of the 25 cm (9.8 inches) Simba Source mattress are:
- Non-removable wool-viscose cover
- Cushioning wool comfort layer
- Two Yorkshire-grown hemp and flax comfort layers
- 2,500 titanium alloy Aerocoil conical springs as the support layer
- Sprung base with 750 high carbon steel Quadcore barrel springs

1. Smooth wool-viscose cover
The cover of the Simba Earth Source mattress is made from a blend of breathable wool (sourced through the Traceable British Wool Scheme [1] and woven in Yorkshire) and plant-based viscose.
It helps regulate temperature by wicking away moisture, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable throughout the night.
It’s worth noting, though, that this cover is not removable, so we highly recommend getting a waterproof mattress protector to safeguard your mattress.
The Simba mattress protector, while soft and comfortable, is only water-resistant, so you may want to look at the Hypnia mattress protector or the Nectar mattress protector as good alternatives.
2. Cushioning wool comfort layer
The soft British wool comfort layer (sourced from UK sheep under the Traceable British Wool Scheme) adds an extra layer of plushness while maintaining breathability.
Wool is naturally moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating, helping to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
3. 2x Yorkshire hemp and flax comfort layers
The two Yorkshire hemp and flax comfort layers provide natural, durable support while further enhancing breathability.
Hemp and flax, both grown in Yorkshire and chemical-free, are sustainable materials known for their strength and moisture-wicking properties, helping to create a cooler, fresher sleep environment while offering gentle cushioning.
This layer is also combined with traditional cotton, up-cycled from French cotton mills.
4. Aerocoil spring support layer
The support layer of this mattress consists of 2,500 conical Aerocoil springs. These titanium alloy micro springs offer responsive support and adapt to your body’s movements.
The layer also further promotes airflow through the mattress, enhancing breathability while offering targeted pressure relief and improved motion isolation.
These micro pocket springs are made in Leeds and enclosed in polypropylene pockets.
5. Quadcore sprung base
The base of the Simba Earth mattress is made of 750 high carbon steel springs, enclosed in polyester casing and welded in fours to encourage enhanced stability.
This robust layer provides excellent edge support, meaning you can use the entire width of the mattress, while also contributing to the overall durability and longevity of the mattress.
How comfortable is the Simba Source mattress?
Even if you have the most eco-friendly mattress in the world, you still need it to be super comfortable.

How firm is the Simba Source mattress?
The Simba Source is rated as a medium-firm mattress, making it great choice for back sleepers and side sleepers.
It provides a supportive feel while still offering enough cushioning to alleviate pressure points, promoting proper spinal alignment.
Stomach sleepers may need something a little firmer (like the Origin Hybrid mattress) for proper spinal alignment, but you may need to test to see if it works for your build.
Smaller builds, for example, will do just fine on a medium-firm mattress, even as stomach sleepers.

How breathable is the Simba Source mattress?
Thanks to the inclusion of multiple breathable and airflow-enhancing materials, the Source mattress can offer excellent temperature regulation. ❄️
The wool and hemp layers wick away moisture, while the Aerocoil springs enhance airflow, keeping you cooler and more comfortable throughout the night.
That said, some sleepers do find that wool layers increase the overall temperature, which could be likely if you’re a very hot sleeper.

Is the Source mattress suited to couples?
